The organizers of the Credit Union Queen City Marathon are very pleased to announce that John Stanton – the founder of the Running Room and international author of 8 best-selling books on running and walking – will be joining us once again for the Credit Union QCM race weekend.

On Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, John will be leading the Running Room Friendship Run, starting at the Running Room store at the corner of Albert Street and 13th Avenue.  Join John there for some words of encouragement and inspiration, meet your Running Room Pace Bunny, have some good laughs with familiar faces in the local running and walking community and go for a nice little 3K run or walk to loosen up your legs and work out some last minute nervous energy.  And remember to pick up your free Running Room Pace Band, too!

Saturday evening, we’re very happy to announce that John will be one of the special guest speakers at our Pasta Party, in addition to previously-announced guest speaker, race walker Wayne Cowan

If you’re new to running and walking in races, you are definitely going to want to hear John Stanton speak and “learn from the master.”  And, even if you’ve completed a hundred races, John’s ability to distill the joyous essence of active, healthy living is always going to inspire you to keep going and finish “upright and smiling.”  If you've purchased one of John's many books on running or walking, bring it along to the Pasta Party , as we're sure John would be pleased to autograph your copy.

Then, on race day, you’ll find John doing what he loves to do more than just about anything…waiting at the finish line to give YOU your Credit Union Queen City Marathon finisher medal!

Get your tickets now for our Saturday Evening Pasta Party,

with special guest speaker, race-walker WAYNE COWAN.

Wayne C Medals.jpg

For Alberta-based race-walker Wayne Cowan, "Finishing is Winning!"  And Wayne ought to know...because he's finished more than 100 marathons and half marathons.  Take a look at the photo above to see Wayne's impressive collection of medals.  That's a whole lot of bling!

As Wayne puts it, when he first started walking in marathons, his goal was just to make it "from light pole to light pole" and he's spent his share of time keeping company with the sweeper cyclists.  But, his dedication and perserverance moved him from jogging/walking...to speed walking...and now to an Olympic race-walking stride that has earned him top finishes and gold medals in races across Canada.

Wayne's inspiring presentation - "Finishing is Winning" - describes his most memorable moments and shares how he went about overcoming the physical and emotional obstacles that ALL marathon and half marathon participants face out there on the roads and trails.  Whether you are a walker  or a runner, we know you'll enjoy hearing Wayne.

Wayne turned 59 this past February and, despite a severe shoulder injury sustained during a 10K race last March (darned icy streets!), Wayne is still on track to make the 2011 Credit Union Queen City Marathon his 60th full marathon race!  He'll be the guy on the course wearing race bib #60, so be sure to say hi.

Better yet, get your tickets now to our Pasta Party and come meet Wayne after his presentation!  For details on how to get your tickets, keep scrolling down this page.

Pre-order your pasta party tickets when you register to reserve your seat in advance.

Tickets are $15.00 per person - children 5 and under no charge.  Seating is limited to the first 800 tickets.  Pre-ordered tickets will be included in your race package.

If you FORGOT to order pasta party tickets when you registered, do this:

Mail us a cheque or money order (made out to Queen City Marathon @ $15.00 per ticket) to Queen City Marathon, P.O. Box 37039, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada S4S 7K3.  We regret that we cannot process payments on debit or credit cards prior to race package pickup.

In the envelope, please include a note with your name, the event in which you are registered and how many pasta party tickets you wish to purchase.

NOTE: We need to receive your letter and payment by August 31st at the very latest.  Providing our pasta party tickets are not already sold out, we'll include your tickets in your race package.  If the tickets are sold out, we'll contact you and either return or destroy your cheque or money order.

Please do not send cash through the mail.  We won't destroy cash...we'll likely just blow it on cheap booze and fast horses.

After the August 31st deadline, if any tickets are still available, they can be purchased in person at race package pickup, while supplies last.  Payments at race package pickup can be made on debit or credit card.

Bring the Bling!  Wear all your previous medals to the Pasta Party!

If you have done a previous Credit Union QCM - or any other race anywhere - we encourage you to wear ALL your finisher medals at the pasta party!

This is a perfect opportunity for you dig those old medals out of the bottom of your underwear drawer, blow the dust off them (the medals, not your underwear) and proudly show off all your hard-earned hardware!

After all, how often do you get a chance to wear your race medal(s) out in public?  Without getting strange looks from the people at the 7-11, we mean.

And it's great inspiration for our first-time participants, too.

Where and when does the pasta party take place?  How do I get there?

Hosted by the Conexus Arts Centre, the pasta party a relaxed, casual event held on the Saturday prior to race day from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at the Conexus Arts Centre, 200A Lakeshore Drive.

This is the same building where Race Package Pickup is held, but you enter through a different door for the pasty party.

  • Park in the Conexus Arts Centre parking lot, enter through the front doors, (located on the north side of the building facing the lake) and follow the signs downstairs to Convention Hall.

To get to the Conexus Arts Centre from a central downtown hotel:
